Compared with waiting for ten years and then saving $48,000 per year for ten years...

A net average growth rate of 9% per annum is assumed, net of charges...



In this specific example, if you started now, your fund would be almost 20% larger...

This is why saving early is so important to building wealth and meeting your future financial commitments...

And naturally, if you start now at $24,000 per annum and increased to $48,000 p.a. in ten years time...

Then in this example the total value of your retirement fund would be approximately $1.7m, i.e. the sum of the above...

Price-Cost Averaging or Dollar Cost Averaging 

Price-cost averaging is the practice of investing a fixed amount on a regular basis (e.g. monthly) into a particular investment or portfolio, regardless of the price...

This equates to more shares / units being purchased while prices are low and vice versa...

This results in an average purchase cost (e.g. price of units)....

The average purchase cost should be lower than the price you sell at the end of the period of investment...

In essence it is a risk management strategy with the following assumptions...

• Prices generally increase over the long-term


• Prices fluctuate, sometimes substantially, over the shorter term


• It is extremely hard to successfully time the market

Price-cost averaging is effective because...

• Buy more when prices are cheap.


• Removes emotion, research shows emotion usually negatively impacts investment decisions.


• Avoids trying to time the market.


• Lowers your overall stress by allowing smaller, regular investments as opposed to a larger investment.

The Cost of Delay

Compound interest has a major effect on your overall return over time....

The amount of time you are invested is the key point; although most are not aware to what extent...

As an example, let’s compare two investors...

Both save the exact same amount of $480,000, receive the same average return of 9% pa until the age of 55 years...

The only difference is when each investor started investing...

Investor A started at the age of 35 years and saves $2,000 pm for 20 years, whereas Investor B started at the age of 45 years and therefore saves $4,000 pm for 10 years...
